We are obsessive about materials because this is where it all starts. So when we started looking for leather frames earlier this year, we wanted to find a company that only worked with premium leathers and, like the old-fashioned leather manufacturers, still made everything by hand.
We were thrilled when we discovered Graphic Image, a New York-based company that has long been producing private label products for companies like Tiffany and Bergdorf. Like Smythson and Cassegrain, Graphic Image specializes in premium French and Italian calf skin and goat skin leather, but their products have a refined, yet practical American sensibility. The founder, Bennett Glazer, was a graphic artist who worked in one of America’s largest specialty book-binding firms. So when he started his company, he naturally drew upon his background to create a line of products that is well-designed, well-made, and well-priced.
