Have you ever slept on linen sheets? If you’ve stayed in really exclusive hotels across Europe, you probably have, but there’s no need to break the bank in order to enjoy something countless numbers of Europeans enjoy night after night. To them, nothing else feels quite right, and once you’ve slept on linen, you’ll know what they mean.
In our bedrooms, we alternate between cotton sateen, cotton percale, and linen sheets. Our percale sheets always feel the crispest, and they look great with almost no care. Sateen feels softer, and is wonderful for that high-end, five-star, room service hotel feel.
But for a uniquely luxurious experience, there’s nothing quite like linen. How does one even describe it? It’s like slipping into your favorite linen shirt on a summer afternoon. Linen is softer, and yet it feels more substantial. The more you wash it, the more it feels like you’ve owned it forever. Every time it’s been laundered and pressed, it’s as crisp as the first time you use it. Aside from that, the incomparable softness and the colors you get with linen are just perfect when you want a more relaxed look.
If you’re looking for classic white, Sferra’s Classico collection is woven in Italy and finely detailed with a hemstitched border.
This looks perfect as is, but sometimes in the summer and spring you may want a little more pattern, so you can combine it with Catalina, in either blue or straw.
For a sophisticated Belgian feel, Libeco Home’s Sisco striped linens are perfect in grey. Since Libeco is based out of Belgium, this is not surprisingly one of their best-sellers.
For those of you who love color, Vence (also from Libeco Home) is rich and saturated with character:
And for something a little more playful, Floriane has a romantic shabby chic pattern that is perfect for both children and adults:
