In the Artist’s Words: Evoca

/ View All

The Evoca collection from L’Objet is a whimsical design of bamboo branches, curved and twisted in fantastic shapes, and detailed with gold and platinum.

Creator Elad Yifrach talks about the inspiration behind Evoca:

Most of my clients have no idea how complicated the welding is on these pieces. The gracefully intertwined stems are a modern take on the timeless design element of bamboo, and joining it with stainless steel is not only a uniquely beautiful juxtaposition, but a remarkable feat of craftsmanship.

As you can see in these close-up photos, the detailed craftsmanship of the Evoca collection is truly exquisite. They are even more beautiful in person.

In the Artist’s Words: Introducing Perlee

/ View All

Inspired by the timeless elegance of the pearl, each piece in L’Objet’s Perlee collection is hand-gilded with three layers of 24 kt gold or platinum. Each piece is hand-crafted from Limoges porcelain with a raised border of pearl shapes.

Perlee Gold Dinnerware

Making Perlee is quite an intricate process. L’Objet’s Elad Yifrach explains:

The first step involves very complicated, highly detailed model making, from which we create the Limoges porcelain cast. At that point, each item is then painstakingly gilded – by hand – with 24kt gold or platinum. This remarkable process…is truly an art. And it takes time – ranging from two hours to paint a single dessert plate… to seven hours for our large vertical bowl!

You can watch a clip of this painstaking process in this video from L’Objet:

Each piece of Perlee dinnerware is truly a work of art. It’s available in four colors: white, gold, platinum, and blue.

L’Objet Designer Elad Yifrach’s Favorite Pieces

/ View All

L’Objet’s jewel-like gold and platinum tableware, gift and decor pieces make us swoon. We love them all so much it’s hard to decide on a favorite – the Evoca candlesticks? Or maybe the adorable bird napkin rings? We were curious which L’Objet products were the designer’s favorites.

In a recent post on his own blog, designer Elad Yifrach revealed his top pick for L’Objet products:

Well, of course, I love all our pieces… but I’ve found one collection to be universally appreciated – our frames. We have such a variety, so its easy to address the different tastes of the many people I call family. And I designed all our frames as heirloom pieces – each is plated in platinum and finished and polished by hand, much like fine jewelry (so you never have to polish them).

From Candle to Desk Collection: Crocodile by L’Objet

/ View All

I spend a lot of time at my desk, so I really appreciate a well-designed set of desk accessories. There’s absolutely no reason why office tools can’t be fashionable – work is so much more of a pleasure when you’re surrounded with beautiful objects. Of course, they need to be useful, too. L’Objet’s crocodile desk collection is both. Made from Limoges porcelain with a matte black finish, all of the pieces look and feel so elegant. But did you know it was all inspired by a candle?

Crocodile Candle by L'Objet

The crocodile candle was a big hit as soon as it was introduced. Based on the candle’s success, designer Elad Yifrach decided to expand it into an entire line of desk accessories. In his own words:

Even in an age when the desktop has gone digital, I think there is something very special about having a beautiful, hand-crafted desk set. Featuring the same sculpted porcelain and black matte ink that made the candle so popular, each of the desk items will also be wonderfully textured, and accented with 24K gold. I think the result is timeless and elegant, and, as is so often the case with universally appealing design, totally gender neutral.

The collection includes boxes, a tray, and a magnifying glass. And of course, the original crocodile candle deserves a place on the desk as well.

There is a long history of ceramic art in Italy, dating all the way back to the 13th century when red clays were dug from local river beds to create Italian maiolica, earthenware with an opaque glaze and colorful decorations. In the Artist’s Words: What Does Blue Mean to You?

/ View All

We love learning about what inspires our artists to create the pieces they do.  Here is what L’Objet’s Elad Yifrach said recently about blue and white, and his inspiration for the Perlee Blue dinnerware collection:

Last year I was fortunate enough to sail from Turkey to Greece with a group of dear friends. We called it our own “Blue Voyage”, a time-honored journey across the Aegean originated by the Turkish painter and author Cevat Şakir Kabaağaç, who explored the same waters in the early 1900’s.

The journey on a Turkish gulet (those lovely, double-mast wooden schooners) was an experience I will never forget. The images are indelible: azure waters juxtaposed against the pastoral Mediterranean coastline… The warm nights, with stars scattered across the sky like diamonds on indigo velvet… Gentle, hazy mornings, waking to the sound of the waves… And, of course, the fresh, vibrant Mediterranean food!

To read more, read Elad’s post here.

Although Perlee Blue was inspired by Elad’s trip to the Mediterranean, we love that it feels so right for us to use it in California.   We love blue and white, and the strong colors in this collection make it perfect for dining outdoors.

Design Lessons from Saint James Paris

/ News Around the Web

From the outside, the Saint James Paris looks like a traditional Neoclassical chateau in a quiet residential neighborhood. But thanks to a recent makeover by designer Bambi Sloan, however, the interiors tell an entirely different story. With leopard print carpets, pattern on pattern, and bold color galore, Sloan has given hotel’s interiors a wonderfully theatrical update. While there are a few rooms here and there, that are more on the traditional side, most are fun and fearless. Sloan definitely had a blast re-imagining the hotel and it shows. It’s a reminder not to take decorating too seriously. Why waste time agonizing over fabric swatches and rug samples? Let loose, go bold, and enjoy the unique results. Design is a creative expression after all. Plenty of bold ideas here to inspire your own rooms:

Need Architectural Details? Paint Them On: Why waste money replacing a perfectly fine standard flat door?  Painting the panels on with loose brushstrokes is quirky and cool.

Scenic Wallpaper Enlivens Any Space: Especially in a hallway or foyer, scenic wallpaper adds color, dimension, and lots of personality to a space.

All Colors Work Together: Take a cue from nature and pair a variety of colors together without worrying too much about coordinating. Here light blue, purple, lime green and navy share space with a vibrant wallpaper. The magic is that it works. Not everything has to go together in the traditional sense.

Red Always Adds Drama:  Want to create a dramatic, theatrical space in an instant? Layer on the red and add in the gilt. It is totally dramatic and hey, maybe just a bit like a bordello, but it definitely creates a mood.

Sneak a Peak: In a small space, doors can just take up much needed square footage and well, they are so…expected. Curtains separating one room from the next add some flair to a space. They also beautifully frame the adjoining room. Bonus if you can center a fabulous headboard in the middle.

Leopard Prints + Red = Fabulous: I’ve seen this combo in libraries and dens before and I always love it. It’s sophisticated while not taking itself too seriously. The perfect backdrop for multiple martinis.

One is the Loneliest Number: There is power in multiples. A dozen or so starburst mirrors make a gorgeous graphic statement along one wall.
