Thanks to everyone who entered our Holiday Table Setting Contest! While we’re deliberating over who the big winner is, we had to show off these great tables that were entered.

I pulled a little from here & there. The bird/butterfly dessert plates are from my mother’s family, and the yellow pottery dinner plates from Italy. The stemware is high/low. Crystal stems are Gianni Versace white hobnail is plastic from Martha Stewart. You might recognize the dinner napkins, custom designed by Gracious style.

In the picture you can see ribbon wrapped bundles. These are all the Christmas cards my family has ever received (I’ve saved every last one of them!). I bundle them up every year and use them to decorate our table. They are a wonderful conversion piece as most guests (at least during the dessert course) like to open a past year and look back at friends and family’s Christmas cards.

When it comes to holiday gingerbread houses, the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel really takes the cake.  Every year the pastry chefs there show off with a sugary holiday landscape.  Some years it’s the North Pole.  Other years it’s a little village.

This year, though, they outdid even themselves with a seascape that includes Godzilla, pirate ships, sea monsters, Smurfs, taco trucks, and Santa sunning at the beach.  It’ll be on view until after the Holidays, but if you can’t make it to there, here are some pictures:
