We love this expert tip from interior designer Susan Ferrier of McAlpine, Booth, & Ferrier via House Beautiful:
“Mirrors are one of my favorite objects for giving a room character. A large-scale mirror creates a generous window. Don’t be afraid to stretch the idea of it. Lean it against the wall. Distress and age the glass to create a textured atmosphere. Have the audacity to cover some of the mirror with a suspended piece of art or an architectural fragment: it will compel you to stop and take notice.”
We’re in love with the adorable Amore Plates by Vietri. In two designs, the white plates are inscribed with “Amore” – Italian for “love”. They make great gifts for weddings or loved ones. And from now until the end of October, Vietri will donate 25% of total Amore Plate sales to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Last week, Thomas Keller delighted diners at Harrods London with a temporary pop-up of his renowned restaurant, The French Laundry. Monday was the final day of this venture, but chef Keller left us with a tasty behind-the-scenes tour of the pop-up:

Because home decorating and entertaining are fairly new to me, and because I have a new husband/family to impress, I’ve learned a few tricks of the trade along the way that I think are worth sharing. The most important lesson I’ve learned when it comes to entertaining is learning to fake it. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have all the time in the world to press the linens, whip up a gourmet meal, and serve every dining victory on handcrafted china? Sure it would – but I don’t always have the time to put together the five star look, though I do strive for a bit of pizzazz. Read more

This fall, Sferra is introducing four new, color-coordinated bedding pieces. Blues and purples are the stylish new colors this fall, joined by champagne and gray. All the colors can effortlessly be mixed and matched, so putting together a great-looking bedroom is a cinch.
To see the items as they were introduced at the New York market, watch this six-minute video from Sferra:
SFERRA’s Fall 2011 Collection Video Presentation from SFERRA on Vimeo.
Here are close-ups of the new pieces.
A modern take on a classic open-style lattice-work design, Avellina showcases a tone-on-tone damask of criss-crossing lines; the look is clean and crisp.
An up-to-date version of a traditional motif, these blanket covers and shams feature a tonal quatrefoil pattern that is understated and classic, while still offering a new and modern flair.
Slip back into old-world style. The elaborate scroll pattern on this Italian cotton sateen jacquard is reminiscent of high-ceilinged bedrooms in European palazzos.
Perfect for cooler weather, Como is made from pure Merino wool finely woven into a large scale tonal lattice pattern. We love that it is reversible.
In addition to these new introductions, new colors have been added to the St. Moritz Blanket, Dorsey Cashmere Throw, Abbey Velvet Pillow, Jolie Throw Pillow, and Giotto Sheets.
Most items are in stock and can ship within the week, so if you just can’t wait to get your hands on the new bedding, we’ve got you covered! Click here to shop the new collections.

About a year and a half ago, my fiance and I embarked on the wedding registry. Overwhelmed hardly even begins to describe the road to decorating a home for us. Today we have all of the practical items – the dishes, the silverware, and basic serving dishes. But alas, our tabletop lacks character. Then I came across the L’Objet collection, and my heart went pitter-patter.
Just as in fashion, my tastes ever lean to all that’s sparkly. Metallics speak to me. With stunning silverware and gold-dipped pieces helming his collection, L’Objet’s founder and designer Elad Yifrach evokes a Mediterranean heritage filled with ancient imagery and design.
His napkin rings are jewels for the table …
… which look amazing next his serving pieces …
Even his dinnerware is stunning!
Intrigued, I set out to learn more about the designer. As it turns out, Yifrach honed his skills not in earthenware and precious metals, but in interior design. Prior to founding L’Objet in 2004, Israeli-born Yifrach was a successful designer in Beverly Hills. He was creating beautiful interiors, but he was frustrated by the limited options available in home accessories, so he set out to create something better.
L’Objet’s collections are diverse, but they are almost always inspired by nature and architecture. Many of his exquisite serving pieces rest in a base of hand-crafted gold foliage, other pieces feature intricate design and beadwork, and some of the most striking objects actually look like miniature buildings. And despite the lux feel, much of the line is practical with just a touch of whimsy.
Pieces from L’Objet are meant to be enjoyed; the designs are thus both luxurious and functional. And of course, I’m charmed by the idea that my everyday serving bowls have me feeling like Cleopatra at dinner!
